Start with the replacement tap

A new kitchen mixer, separate basin taps and a wall-mounted fitting are different installations. Match the hole arrangement and check the product’s connection requirements before buying. A photograph is useful, but dimensions and the manufacturer’s information may also be needed.

Access can change the scope

Cupboards, drawers, a pedestal or a tight space beneath a bath can restrict the installer’s access. Corroded fixings may need additional attention. Show the surrounding space as well as the tap when requesting a quote, and mention any known problems with the isolation valves.

Check what is included

Ask who supplies the tap, whether the existing fittings are suitable and what making good is included. A plumbing guide price is a starting point for a stated job, not a promise that every tap fits without other work. Agree the total payable before booking.

Repair may still be an option

A drip does not always mean the whole tap needs replacing. If the body is sound and a compatible washer or cartridge is available, repair may be suitable. Repeated problems, corrosion or unavailable parts can make replacement more practical.
