Keep people away from hazards
Avoid standing water near sockets, appliances or electrical equipment. Do not touch wet switches or approach a wet consumer unit. Keep clear of bulging ceilings and any area that appears unsafe. If someone is in immediate danger, call the emergency services.
Turn off the water if safe
If you can safely reach your internal stop tap and identify it, turn it off gently. Do not force a seized valve. Thames Water advises keeping the water off until a burst pipe is repaired. If you cannot isolate it, explain that when seeking urgent assistance.
Arrange help and describe the situation
Call rather than relying on an unread message for an active leak. Say whether the supply is isolated, where the water is appearing and whether electrical equipment or another property is affected. Swift Home accepts emergency plumbing enquiries subject to availability; the emergency rate is agreed before attendance.
Limit damage without taking risks
Move possessions only if you can do so safely. A container beneath a small accessible drip may help, but it is not a repair. Do not enter a flooded area or disturb a ceiling to catch water. Photograph the damage when it is safe, particularly if you may need an insurance record.
Before turning the supply back on
A repair should be checked before normal use resumes. Water-damaged electrical equipment needs appropriate assessment; Swift Home does not undertake general electrical work. Make a separate plan for drying and making good any affected surfaces.
